Ken Simpson

Ken graduated with a BA in Risk Management in 1994 and has been in the financial services industry ever since. Following over 10 years with an International Plc as a Corporate IFA, he set up IBC with a view to providing bespoke solutions to corporate and individual clients with a focus on client relationships and flexible solutions. Having established IBC in 2010 and having been involved in the start-up of three additional businesses, Ken believes this has provided a valuable insight to the challenges many businesses face and firmly believes that this places IBC in the unique position to fully understand the financial solution requirements of businesses big and small. Ken has a passion for financial services and continues to work with clients to ensure the strong relationships that he views are essential to the provision of client solutions.

Derek Allan

Derek started his career with Standard Life in Edinburgh, in pension administration. His sales career started when he was promoted to a trainee consultant role in Newcastle.

He has had a number of different roles in his 38 years in the industry – mainly with HSBC. An employee benefit consultant, a senior training and development manager and supervisor, a Branch Manager and a compliance manager are a number of roles he has held over those years.

Always eager to help people, he enjoys his advising role immensely but is also very keen to help other members of the team in their development.

Julie Mitchell

Julie is an Independent Financial Adviser within the firm. She has 30 years’ financial services experience, starting off her career with several insurance and pensions companies as a Consultant. Nearly 20 years ago, she then became an Independent Financial Adviser. She has a wealth of experience and the necessary qualifications to provide specialist pension transfer advice.

Julie is a member of Consensus Collaboration Scotland and the International Academy of Collaborative Professionals and works alongside solicitors to provide financial and pension advice to couples who are divorcing. The Collaborative method offers a non-confrontational way of agreeing the legal, financial and practical arrangements for separation and divorce.

Carol Moir

Carol’s career began at Scottish Mutual where she worked as a broker consultant for 10 years. After taking time out to have a family, she decided to pursue a new career in paraplanning. She worked initially for an outsourced preplanning company supporting IFAs throughout the UK.After 3 years she then joined a large IFA firm as their in house paraplanner. 5 years later, after gaining a wealth of knowledge and experience in this role, she decided it was time for a new challenge. Carol joined IBC as a Senior Paraplanner in June 2017.

Desmond McGinley

Des joined Independent Benefit Consultancy (IBC) in his role as Operations Manager in 2013 having worked in financial services for 25 years. Having begun his career with one of the UK’s largest Insurers he went on to work for a global banking institution before spending a few years with one of the UK’s best known Employee Benefits organisations. During this time, Des has gained invaluable experience in dealing with both Corporate and individual clients.

Craig Thomas

Craig is currently working as a trainee financial adviser with IBC. Having started his career in the financial industry with Scottish Widows, Craig built up an excellent knowledge over 2 years in Individual Protection. Here he was involved with the administration and development of the latest changes and products in the protection market.

Craig joined IBC in June 2016 and has been working towards DipFS status alongside taking on para-planning and administration duties in the office.

On track to complete his PFS level 4 qualification in 2018, Craig will soon be advising clients directly and is looking forward to being able to put his specialist knowledge to good use by helping clients plan their financial journey.

Kevin McCann

Kevin is currently working as a trainee financial adviser with IBC. Kevin joined IBC September 2017 and is working towards his PFS Level 4 Diploma in regulated financial planning.

His various IBC duties currently include administration duties as well as learning para-planning skills.

Kevin’s career path is an interesting one having been a professional footballer for 14 years playing at the highest level domestically in Scotland and also playing abroad in Singapore.

His first experience of financial advice was actually as a client during his playing career having worked with a financial adviser on his own finances. The financial advice process started his passion for the industry and one which he has choose to turn into a career which he aims to help create financial solutions for clients.

Maureen Reilly

Having worked for more than 20 years within the civil service, Maureen identified that her skills and experience would add value to the client proposition in place at IBC. Maureen joined our team in 2012. A distinct career shift in many ways, Maureen’s structured approach to office management and ability to research, prepare and support bespoke solutions for clients placed her in the ideal position to demonstrate a high level of added value. The mother of 3 lovely daughters, Maureen enjoys spending time with her family, listening and learning about others and providing assistance when possible. Her hobbies include reading, chatting, socialising and making the most out of life.

Aimee Carlin

Aimee begun her career in financial services in 2014 based in another IFA firm. Having mainly worked with pensions, she managed to build a vast knowledge in this sector and continues to learn more each day. In May 2017, Aimee joined IBC as an administrator with a view to, in the future, complete her RO exams and work towards the role of a para-planner.

Alistair Scott

After graduating from Glasgow University, Alistair played professional football both full time and part time before becoming a building society manager. In the mid 80s, Alistair joined Willis Corroon as a consultant and was then appointed divisional director. As well as passing the relevant exams to obtain his DipPFS, he  also qualified as a Pension Transfer specialist. After leaving Willis Corroon, he joined HSBC Actuaries and Consultants Ltd in 1997 to head up their Glasgow team. This business was sold in 2010 to Jardine LLoyd Thomson where Alistair looked after their individual and group clients in Scotland. In 2014, he joined IBC as a senior consultant. Alistair has  acquired a wealth of experience and knowledge from working in the financial services industry for nearly 40 years. His main hobbies are golf and fishing whilst enjoying most sports.

Graeme Beattie

Having joined IBC in October 2017, Graeme is the youngest member of the team and is currently working as a trainee financial adviser. Before becoming part of IBC, Graeme was a student at the University of Glasgow, graduating with an honours degree in Business and Management.

During his time at IBC Graeme has been working alongside the team taking on administration duties and offering support where possible. Alongside these daily tasks, Graeme is continuing to work towards achieving his DipPFS status and aims to complete all the necessary exams in the coming years and become a valued member of the adviser team within IBC.
